Enjoy a sample of the stunning images submitted to our Photography competition
Over 50 entries were submitted to this year's competition, overseen by Cheltenham Camera Club. You'll be able to see a fuller gallery at the races on April 3rd.
The Winner is Angela Danby's Magnus and Carolyn, a classic monochrome portrait of two heavy horses in which the use of light draws out the etched lines on the face of the ploughman and the effort applied by these magnificent beasts.
In second place is a still shot from the county's other leading equestrian sport - polo. Riding off an opponent is a fast and furious part of the sport, but one wonders sometimes what the horses think of it! If you're looking for some thrilling summer sport, then polo at Westonbirt or Cirencester is pretty much every weekend, and also at Longdole.
The next three images were highly commended by our judges. The first above is a wonderful look at two well lived-in faces. The gaucho in Patagonia shows that a life outdoors may be healthy, but it also leaves its mark.
Racing enthusiasts won't mind these last two images from Cheltenham, the first a clever focus on a jockey about the hit the turf. No-one likes fallers in our races, but the clever use of focus makes this a breath-taking shot. Similarly, the image below captures a driving finish in the famous Gigginstown colours of the O'Leary brothers. Can anyone spot the identity of the rider?
